2010 WRX Engine Thermostat Location???
 
I posted this yesterday in Newbie area, but reposting for wider viewing, and hopefully a response.

I have a low mileage 2010 WRX that is over heating, and it seems to be a stickng thermostat. I have a replacement thermostat and gasket in hand, ready to replace the original one, but I have had conflcting information on where the thermostat is located.

The dealer parts guy told me it is attached to the water pump, which would indicate it is at the top of the engine (top radiator hose), but other information I have read on-line says it is where the lower radiator hose attaches to the engine.

Can someone point me in the right direction before I start the process?

If your 10 WRX is anything like my 07 WRX, then the water pump should be on the bottom of the engine attached to your lower radiator hose. Jack your car up, pop the plastic undertray off, and take a look for yourself

07 seemed to be a transition year for the WRX...both 2nd generation and 3rd generation WRX's were produced that year. From the picture, yours seems to be a 2nd gen. Do you know if the engine was changed between 2nd & 3rd gen WRX's?

I was just trying to save myself some time and trouble as it is kind of a pain to jack up the car, take off the plastic cover, lay on the cold ground, etc. I would hate to do it just to find it is at the top side.

2007 was the last year of the second generation WRX. I'd say 2008 was more of a "transition" year.

You can look at the top radiator hose and trace it from the radiator to the block just by opening the hood.

I Googled some engine pics and the second and third gen WRX engine layouts look very similar. I'm almost positive your water pump is on the bottom of the engine just like mine. If you need further confirmation, you could call a Subaru dealership and ask a mechanic.
