2008 WRX Stage 2- intermittent poor performance

I have a downpipe and a stage 2 flash. 48k miles

when im low on gas (1/8) the car performs extremely poorly, and when i quickly remove my foot from the throttle, the car bucks a lot harder then it normally would. started ~2000 miles ago. ive noticed that my temperature gauge spikes to extremely hot sometimes, but back to normal within mins, on half a tank or more its been better, but my car is definatly not accelerating the way it should be. i have a boost gauge, and it seems that when im makin max boost 18psi~ it accelerates perfect, where other times it struggles. but when i give it about 3/4, it felt better then WOT. Ive run my car real low on fuel for a bit of its life unfortunately. i think im losing fuel pressure. i know i have to modify the enclosure in my tank to put a walbro in if i have to replace the fuel pump. can i? could this be the problem? is it hard? maybe my fuel filter is clogged/ needs to be replaced. someone told me that on the 2008+ the filter doesnt get changed, i couldnt find specific information on it. the maitenance manual says every 60k, but i think the chart is for more then just the wrx, so may be wrong, despite it coming with my car. car has been runnin stage 2 strong on 18-20psi for 25-30k~ miles. maybe some injector cleaner. ive already paid enough in transmission/clutch over the cars lifetime and sick of dealing with garages, hoping i could take care of this problem myself. any advice? ask me anything

It wouldn't hurt to switch the FP out to a walbro. You can do it yourself, takes about 2 hours. Check on scoobymods for the install. Here's a good link : Unabomber's Manifesto - Injector, Fuel Pump, and Fuel Rail FAQ - MySubie.com

FYI: You will need to remember to keep the tank on >1/4 tank if you use the walbro sock(filter).

Have you tried to clean the MAF yet ? Maybe a seafoam treatment ?

Just throwing this out there. i had a situation very close to yours and i suspected it was bad gas. mostly becuase it was immediately after a fill up at a pleace i never go to. regaredless it never "bucked" on me ever or ever over heated. After a reflash and some fresh 94oct she was roaring again. havent had the problem since then but if your running an AP a reflash might help plus you can look at your injector cycle duty if it's really high then it might be a good idea to drop in a walbro....

Good luck!

I wouldn't think it's bad gas as it happens at 1/8th or lower (meaning it's happened more than one time).

What mods do you have on the car?

Invidia catless downpipe and an opensource XPT stage 2 tune

the cars been runnin strong up until lately. i havnt done any sort of maintenance other then oil changes. i really hope that its the pump or the filter cause ive spent enough on tranny repairs as it is.

Ok, almost sounds like fuel cut. Have you done any logs? And no other mods? 3port?

Several of the guys on here will take a look at the logs, i'm sure.
