2005 WRX Running Crappy

Ive been watching craigslist for WRX's for awhile now and today i found a 2005 for $6500 with 70k on it.
Guy says he put 87 octane in it and it ran like crap and is throwing misfire codes, so he parked it and needs money so hes selling it. he says it runs but its rough and its missing.
So could i flush the fuel system, replace the plugs and expect it to be good or is it junk?

I havent personally heard it run yet but to you guys does it sound like it could be seriously hurt?

Sounds kinda sketchy that the guy said hes running 87 and it's not running good so he's selling it. If you really want to make sure the car is ok, take it to a reputable Subaru mechanic and have it checked out before you consider buying it.

you could theoreteically do a flush...change plugs and be fine...but from what I've seen and according to Import Tuner magazine the ECU normally adjusts the timing of the cars if you put in lower octane fuels...so yeah to me it sounds like something else is wrong

I live near you and saw the car on craigslist, worst case scenario the block probably has a crack, which would cause misfires and loss of power (very pricey to fix 4000-5000 if ato shop did it im guessing). i doubt running 87 octain once would screw up the car. but you could always go check it out.
