1st gear Problem

Hi, i'm new to this forum and have recently run into my first problem with my subie. When i'm in first gear and 1st gear only there is a ticking sound seems to be somehting in the drivetrain. The sound is simlar to that f a plastic fan hitting something. The car doesnt slip in first and when i get to second there is no sound at all. Any ideas? I'm hoping its not the tranny

Thanks- Oliver

Does it make sounds when you push in the clutch?
Do you beat on the car?
Might be tranny if you dump the clutch alot.
I would take it easy on her till you can get it checked out man.

So how much does a new tranny go for? i'm not looking to put in a new tranny but possibly just new gears.

You can find a "new/used" 5 speed on nasioc.com for ~700.00. New gears will eat you alive. Unless you get a newer 5 speed from the newer generation wrx's (will it fit)?

Why not drain the gearbox and refill and see if it gets better before dumping 400.00 to a shop ?

Yeah, it'll fit. Pretty sure gears are cheaper still.

First gear on your cars run about 300.00-500.00 I "believe". My bill was 2200.00 when I stripped my 07wrx 1st gear and a new clutch with labor.
