That was my next assumption if it didn't sound like my video.

You and I agree upon alot of things. So it's safe to figure that it's a boost leak...hehe

No it does n't sound like that second video. Its more regular hence the ticking comparison.

If its a boost leak how do I go about finding it?, given that it only does it when under load. Under the hood there are no unusual noises.

thanks for the help guys. I'll look into the boost leak tests. I did some monitoring with an obd2 digital gauge today looking at the Manifold absolute pressure, this is 14.6 before starting (atmospheric) The ticking seems to occur below this figure from 6-13psi. although I think the gauge is a little slow to update and my gut feel is that its really happening between 10-13 psi. Logic would tell me this is around low vacuum conditions. Does this mean its more likely a vacuum leak, or is that the same as a boost leak? Is the noise a valve clicking or the air escaping? What do you think?

Normally if you have a vacuum leak you will notice bad idle issues and low vacuum reading. The car should pull 17-19in/hg of vacuum. Not sure how that would translate for you, but I'm sure there is a conversation chart on the web. The noise should sound like air escaping...

Also the brakes run off the vacuum system and the brakes should barely work if the vacuum is that far off.
