do you have the stock boost controller on your car? sounds like your just running wastegate only. Try starting your car and getting a can of carb and choke and spray the carb and choke around some of the vacuum lines and see if it affects the idle at all.

+1 to the carb/choke cleaner

For the boost, check the lines between the turbo, wastegate, and boost control solenoid. Between the turbo and the T that leads to the wastegate there should be a slight bulge where a restrictor pill would be. Should be a hard spot since it's a small brass bead. The BCS is located between the strut tower and the air box under that black cover. If you can, take a close up picture of the lines and the solenoid and post it. May help in determining what a previous owner may have done to the car.

is it the same CEL?

I think it's really important that you let us know if your BOV is 50/50 hybrid or fully atmospheric. If you dont know, you should post a pic. Try to find a stock one and put that on their, and put the stock intake back on. It has to be your CAI causing all those issues for you.

That or get a downpipe and a tune.

rollin on 17's now and they're dirty

You hit overboost and the car freaks out. It goes into fuel cut and kicks on the CEL. You need a tune, check that the BCS is working properly, and/or check the boost lines between the BCS, turbo, and wastegate.

Cheapest route for a tune is to find someone that has a Tactrix cable and EcuFlash, I can send you a stage 2 tune for your 03 via e-mail. Just flash the tune onto the car with the tactrix and you should be good. Ask on your local forums about it. Another engine management route is the Cobb AccessPort. Personally, I have very little experience with them but I've heard great things about them from the local guys/gals. That's the more expensive route. An AP will run around $400 used and then the tune will run another $100+ unless you use the OTS maps from Cobb which are extremely "safe" tunes.

As for the CEL, if it felt like the car just fell on its face HARD and then the CEL kicked on... It's not the same one.

So the fact that subaru and all of us are recommending to remove your CAI and/or BOV is not worth a try? We are trying to help you fix your problem, but it doesn't help if you won't listen to any of us.
