02 wrx power surge

Hey I have a 02 wrx it runs smooth and all but yesterday it started sputtering and losing power . It only does it around 4000 rpm and higher . Other happens in every gear . It'll surge back and forth like its trying to grape power . I was thinking it might be something with the turbo ? Any ideas !?

sounds like what im running into.. my tuner believes the piston rings going bad... try taking off your oil cap while running and see if you feel any air coming out. thats usually a sign the piston rings are done.. are you running higher than stock boost?

There is a cel but I don't have an obd scanner or a tuner :/ I'm running a stock turbo so I haven't upped the boost at all . I changed the spark plugs and air filter . I gaped the plugs at 0.030 ... Ngk iridiums ....

I checked the hoses and connections to the intake inner cooler and turbo ... One hose was loose on the inner cooler . There was also some oil leaking from around that hose . ?????

Take the TMIC off and look into the charger. VERY little oil is ok, dried is even ok..... pools = no bueno.

Pics might help. See if you can get some shots of inside the charger. Get the code read at any auto parts store (should be free).
