I am currently stationed in South West Germany, and as was my intention in coming here I have made the 2 hour trip up to the Nurburgring 3 times this year. This is something that I suggest every gear head/ race addict/ car fan do sometime in their life. The Nurburgring is unlike any other race track in the world, and is truly a life experience that I will never forget. The last lap I did was in my ford focus ZX3 (just recently bought my 04 WRX) which ran a very respectable time of 10:30.
The nurburgring is the most dangerous race track in the world being just short of 13 miles long, and containing 147 corners. It is also known as the "Green Hell" as nicknamed by Jackie Stewart. I would estimate that a reasonable trip to the ring from the states for 1 person could be made for about $1500 and as an experienced driver I can tell you it would be worth every penny. I spent last year in sKorea and in my limited off time learned the track by driving it on my computer. This is definetely a good step towards surviving your first lap.
I will gladly entertain any questions about my experience on the ring!
awesome man. I am in the Air Force and would love to be stationed in germany just so i can go to this track. Was it very expensive for just the lap. I know you have to pay to get onto the track. 10:30 is very respectable. What that done by you or someone else?
The track charges 24 euro a lap, which is about 31 dollars. The 10:30 lap was done by myself in my modified Ford Focus ZX3. I expect that I will be able to get my WRX in to the low 9's by the time I leave. Germany is an absolutely amazing country for gear heads. My wife saw a Veyron on the autobahn on her way to the Alps last spring. The driving here is amazing no matter where you live.
