My first try at the cones

Went well. I got a little better on the last run (51.921 with no cones down), and didnt break anything. This is something everyone should try before you die. I hope to make it a monthly thing. A few pics, and one with my son who rode with me. Got a video as soon as I get the hard drive out of my wifes computer and buy her a new computer, it died yesterday.

Isn't it enlightening to realize how much you suck on your first try? It's much more skill than comes off at first glance. Good for keeping one humble.

It's addicting isn't it ?

I want to hear about the DNF <-- always good on the first lap you try it.

The saying goes "If you don't knock any cones down, you aren't trying hard enough" lol

The few times I did that style of racing I viewed the cones as people I didn't like that way if I hit one I wouldn't feel bad about it....
Good job anyway and I imagine you had fun...

very addictive. I hit one cone on my second and third times. The dnf , well look at the map, on the second lap you use the first big curve but go straight towards the chicago box to the finish; I got lost and took the first lap path again. I also missed a gate on the first curve. My son was letting me know as I made every mistake and after that he was looking ahead to keep me right. The downed cone in the picture was a pointer cone to show what side of the cones you should be on, thats not one of the ones I hit. It looks easy until you get behind the wheel.

I have heard good things about the KDW2s, but never have gotten around to buying a set and seeing how good they are.

i will be needing to get new tires by the begining of the year. Sooner if I keep doing these events. I heard someone say that you shouldnt get too sticky a tire with stock suspention, does that make sound right??

pzr2874 09-27-2011 05:49 AM

Never have heard of that on a Subie. I do know the stickier the tire the more stress you put on your drivetrain (1st hand experience with this).

That looks like it would be ALOT of fun. Good for you!

Second day at the cones. (this past weekend) Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, I already know I cant drive well and need to learn how to shift. I was trying to hold the gas in this run to knock a couple seconds off, but that didnt work well with my hard tires. And I dont have the knowledge or desire to learn how to edit or put fancy music to the video. All you can hear me say is how I was trying to not slow down.

Why would you need fancy music or special effects for that video???
Looked like you did pretty good to me. My car would absolutely suck for that kind of racing. Granted I suppose I could leave it in 1st the entire time though...lol

wrx1456 10-13-2011 06:54 PM

I never got out of second. Last month I hit 3rd on one run. Different course. Trying to put up the videos of my other 4 runs. slow computer and first time using youtube is slowing me down. I also have video of my runs from the side lines.

psinuse 10-13-2011 08:38 PM

Well a TD06 20g isn't known for it's quick spooling abilities...lol I could probably get away with leaving it in first since I could rev mine out to 9k, so that's the only thing in my favor. There are times I miss my old 2.0 stock turbo though.

pzr2874 10-14-2011 05:48 AM

Watch your tire pressure too.

Try to keep them at ~6lbs less than max, then adjust accordingly. No 2 tracks are going to be the same and the car will react different with differing pressure. Took me almost a year to get this down.
