Lightbulb My First Auto-X

Coming up in 3/18/07...

I have had the car since November of 2005 and prior to that never had a turbo or awd or manual before that. So I am by far from an experienced driver. I am a protuned stage2 currently with no suspension mods. I am on Pzero nero M+S tires with some tread left. Going to the auto-x event to see if its for me. So this is what I will prepare with.

1) Tire pressure: Front 42 Back 38
2) Sit closer than normal with seat belted locked in.
3) Use my ABS often.
4) Eat some cones.
5) Sit in on other people's non time trials.
6) Walk through the course, draw the course, study the course.
7) Look 2-3 cones ahead.
8) Avoid a full tank.
9) Clean out anything loose in my car.
10) Launch the car. (This may be a problem seeing that I've only tried a couple times.)
11) Turn earlier and less.
12) Brake earlier and less.

All this is just some of my checklist. Going to have to take an Advil for this event with so many things to remember.

Oh and I was thinking of buying some 98-01 6-spoke RS wheels. What are some good R-compounds to wrap them in since they will be for auto-x only. Something economical please!

the first run just get a nice comfy speed and cruise dont try and mob through it or youl just make yourself mad and look like an ass. you dont need to launch drag style but give it more than you would on the street.

you my friend are going to be in ESP because of the AP and protune. kuhmo ecsta have an R compound and they are nice and affordable i think wagonracer ran them last year. you dont actually need r compounds because we are putting power through 4 wheels not 2 and your not going to be pushing the car hard enough to need r compounds YET but you will in the near future

I wouldn't sit closer than you usually do...unless you are really leaned back when you drive normally....you should be able to sit in your seat and comfortably rest your wrists on the steering wheel (without reaching/stretching)

1) Tire pressure: Front 42 Back 38 I use 45 in the front and rear
2) Sit closer than normal with seat belted locked in.
3) Use my ABS often. You will want to slow down just before the turn and use your accerlation through the turn
4) Eat some cones. OH AND YOU WILL
5) Sit in on other people's non time trials. This helps a lot....I like to have someone drive my car too (pick someone who really knows what they are doing
6) Walk through the course, draw the course, study the course. Walk the course A LOT ...as many times as you can
7) Look 2-3 cones ahead. If not more...try to memorize the course before you start driving on it and don't take your first run toooooo fast
8) Avoid a full tank. Eh
9) Clean out anything loose in my car. Everything loose in the trunk too
10) Launch the car. (This may be a problem seeing that I've only tried a couple times.)Don't launch it just take off quickly
11) Turn earlier and less. Really depends on the turn itself
12) Brake earlier and less. Don't brake too much
