GRM $2010 Challenge Car

Hey guys I don't know how many of you know about the Grassroots Motorsports Challenge, but seeing as how I go to college in Daytona Beach me and a couple of car buddies have become good friends with the staff over at GRM seeing as how it's headquarters are located just a few miles north in Holly Hill FL. But to make a long story short me and my roommates have decided to put together a car for this years challenge. The rules state the the budget of the car may not exceed the current year so this is being done on a total budget of $2010.

The car we've chosen is a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T. We picked up the rolling shell with full interior for $125 but have since recouped that into our budget after selling off most of the interior and other bits from it. Our plans are to swap in a VR-4 drivetrain (motor, trans, transfer case, axles, rear diff and subframe) that my roommate had in our garage and since he already owned it we get to count it in a fair market value which isn't much because the tranny grinds 2nd and the motor needs attention . We plan on using a Holset HX35 we picked up off of craigslist for $100 and Hoosier slicks we scored for free during the Rolex 24 from APR tunings pit. Here are some pics of the striped out shell and other goodies.

Here's the turbo we plan on using, and the slicks. We don't plan on doing much suspension just some used lowering springs and sways (we figure we can score these off forums for under 400) and we can fab the rest of the turbo kit for around 600 leaving 910 in the budget to buy rims and other accessories.

we've just got to re-locate 2 of the 4 mounts and surprisingly it sort of fits like it was designed to be there, even the transfer case lines up with the tunnel, also just some crude measuring showed that the wheelbases are similar enough between the DSM and VR-4 that we are hoping that the standard VR-4 Driveshaft will work so we don't have to spring for a custom job
