Unable to tune 2003 WRX STi- Please help me!

Hello guys

So I installed a 3" APS TBE onto my 2003 WRX STi. Other than this ive got APS cold air intake, fuel pump and silicone Y pipes.

I took my car to a tuner here in melbourne called AVO to get it reflashed/tuned.

They advised me they could not tune it as it is locked by ecutek.

I decided to get rid of ecutek as I had my preferred tuner AVO so I took the car to the one and only ecutek tuner in melbourne to reflash the ECU back to stock.

They called me and advised they were unable to lock it as it did not have ecutek on there. They advised that the ECU was also closed source from them and there was nothing they could do. The only options given to me were to:
1) Purchase a new ECU
2) Purchase a ecutek licence from them for $1,400 and they could use ecutek to tune my car.

I called AVO my preferred tuner to advise on the update and they said bring it back and we can have another try. They tried this with no luck.

So at the moment im stuck, i cant contact the old owner no one can unlock the ecu and my car is untuned which is unsafe.

There must be a way to clear this data? And why can they reflash using ecutek and nothing else? Surely I dont need ecutek in order for a reflash to happen?

Can someone please help me because I am very very frustrated. This is the third day now and still unresolved

Thanks

Debbie

i think that the ecutek shop that you went to is b.s.-ing you, you dont have to buy the license they are the ones that have it and it only costs about $200 or less here in the U.S. to get it removed.

my best advice is to look for another ecutek tuner and see if they can remove it.

Unfortunaltey there is only one ecutek dealer in the whole of victoria

they said ecutek is the only software that is reading my ecu and to get ecutek i would need to pay for it

the freeware romraider used at my tuner doesnt work apparantley

well i was doing some research on this subject and it seems like tuners in general can put a lock on your ecu to protect their work. the cobb APv2 can lock the ecu as well if its protuned

are you sure you have ecutek and not cobb or some sort of open source?

getting a new ecu might be your cheapest way.

i would try and contact the person you bought the car from and take it back to that tuner, he probably put a lock on it.

or you could try contacting ecutek themselves Contact Information

ECUtek should send you a stock ECU in exchange for the locked one you have for a nominal fee (<$100). If they won't, then they're dicks.

Try to find a used ECU if possible.I would also contact Ecutek directly and see what they have to say.
