Hey guys! I was initially going to look for someone to do a protune on my 2004 wrx. I bought it with a few mods and I'm not sure if it has a tune or not. As far as I know, it has a Greddy evo 3 catback, an srs catless downpipe, unequal length headers (I don't know the brand), a catless uppipe, and an AEM cai. I happened to find an unmarried v1 Cobb Accessport for pretty cheap. I was wondering is it would be safe to use a stage 2 tune, or if it would be better to go for a protune. Quick responses would be appreciated. Thanks!
Well I found the Accessport for $150 and I figured a stage 2 Tune would be better for my car then no tune at all. That's why I was looking in the first place. Do you guys think it would be okay to go stage 2 until I can get a custom tune?
The Cobb tuners are meant to go with specific parts. With the wrong parts installed it could be bad for the engine. If I were you I would wait. Either way if you're not tuned correctly it is bad. You should at least read up at cobbtuning.com good luck.
With all those parts, your going to right direction looking at a custom tune. the Accessport is great if you plan on closely following Cobbs "staged" upgrade paths. Youve got bits and pieces from all over and a pro-tune will definitely help you bring out the best.
Having a accessport is a good thing though. It's a useful tool and is much more user friendly than doing opensource. (laptops and programs) Any tuner worth tuning your car should be able to do it through the accessport as well.
-- Second that, Your tuner should be able to load a custom map on your accessport, then you can still use the accessport to take logs and monitor performance.
- I meant the accessport is good to have for the everyday driver to take logs and monitor them for things like knock. Its not a definitive tool for tuners but its nice piece of mind for drivers
