Why do you need an up pipe? Unless of course the headers come with it. And what headers you going to go with? And the only way even imaginable to go with a DP and no tune is to stay FAR AWAY from boost. Not at all recommended, tho I know several people have done it.

Skip the header and the up-pipe. Not really worth it. Get the tune or hold off on installing the DP until you're ready to get it tuned.

UP is not necessary on a post 05+ WRX. Unless your running EWG. Headers will add power and so will EWG. But, neither are considered safe without a tune. Especially a EWG without a tune will not end well for your engine.

Do you plan on making more than 400whp? Then the header is a waste.

It depends on the header. My header really cleaned up the idle of my car and I'd swear it helped out my flow on the low end also. Granted I'm not even running ELH...I'm running UELH from GT Spec. Still helped.

It's not so much the power goal, but the cost and return. The cheapest good header is $700 and the good ones run double that ($1,300-1,500). The inexpensive ones are guaranteed to fail, and even the $700 one is prone to breaking. You're looking at the latter figure if you want something you want you don't ever have to worry about. You will see some gain, but IMHO this is the last bolt on that should be done considering how little that gain is for the dollars spent.

I make will over double stock power on the factory exhaust manifold.

I'm not saying it won't help so much as it's not worth the money spend until it's really needed. A ported stock exhaust manifold will net almost the same gains, but for alot less cost. What was wrong with your idle???

Porting the stock header and replacing it with aftermarket are done for 2 different reasons. Porting is done to increase turbo response/spool-up speeds, while replacing them with aftermarket ones is done to adjust the power band and increase power.

Power wise on a stock turbo you're not going to see much of a difference in gains that's kind of what I was getting at.

i think a header is very worth it for the power increase, smooth idle, over all punch, sound, smooth everything etc!! however mine was used for $250 and only a week or 2 old. i was pissed Perrin lied about the reason the owner returned it though but simple mod and its 100%. no cracks yet at about 20k but i have a welder so its not a big deal if it does! in 200k it might look like Frankensteins face though. im 10% the way there.

o and ya stay out of boost. i am one of the few that run parts for a week or so before a tune because im testing for problems and install doesnt always happen in one night the day before a tune.
