How to remove ECUTek

hi...I have an 02WRX with ECUTek and its been great its just where I live nobody tunes it anymore so I was wondering if there was a way to remove it so I can go another route?...also I've had ECUTek for around 4 years now so I'm wondering if that was before they decided to lock it on or have they always done that

i know on my 03 wrx i got ecutek in late 05' and it was retuned with cobb protuner in late 07. i dont think they started putting the license on them that long ago. you should be good. i know if it does have the license on it you have to go to an ecutek authorized tuner to remove it.

but i think your good if its been 4 years

rollin on 17's now and they're dirty

Nobody tunes it anymore because ECUTEK charges tuners out the ass for their software, the people getting the tune have to pay several hundred for the license, and it supports less tuning options than the free software out there.

How do you remove their software from your ECU? I don't know but at worst you should be able to send it back to them and get a clean ECU. Hopefully they cross ship. Give them a call. They'll get it off.

If you got it 4 years ago, that is definitely before they started locking the ECUs. You should be able to flash it like you would any other ECU.
