Downpipe + stock catback= stage 2?

Hello, the other day my brother got a ticket for modified exhaust on his car and i fear being next in line. I have a TBE and a K&N drop in filter, so I am currently running stage 2 with the accessport. I wanted to make sure if i could still run the cobb stage 2 map with my stock catback? I plan on buying a dual tip catback down the line or something that doesn't stand out as much as my current grape-shooter exhaust. Thanks and sorry for the newb question.

I can't speak for the accessport but I am running open source stage 2 with a K&N drop-in, helix catted downpipe, and the stock catback with no problems. Most of the power of a full exhaust with very little increase in noise and stock look.

Yeah, thats what i thought. So are you also running an off the shelf stage two map? Did you make any changes or tweaks of any sort?

Yes it works. That is what I am doing right now. Has the power and the sleeper look to it. Unless you are pushing 300+ WHP then you can still run on the stock catback.

All you need for stage 2 is the dowpipe. The catback is not a significant restriction on the 02-07 WRX.

My name is Ken and I am a HP Junkie.

It's pretty bad. That is one of the reasons why I sold my APEX'i N1 catback and switched to the stock catback. I am in the process of switching back to completely stock in a few. Cops have nothing better to do so they bust all the imports. I live in a city where there is little to no crime rate so yeah. Pretty much Southern California hates us.

You guys need to learn to read the map notes for the AP.Thats why they are there.....
cobb . wrx accessport . map listing

"Hardware Requirements: Intended for use on a 2002 WRX with stock
intake, stock fuel injectors, and a turbo-back exhaust system. MUST
USE FACTORY OR COBB SF INTAKE SYSTEM ONLY, NO OTHER AFTERMARKET
INTAKES ARE CERTIFIED COMPATIBLE WITH THIS CALIBRATION."

"Additional Notes:
For use with a 2002 WRX running a turbo-back exhaust system. Additional modifications
such as uppipe and underdrive pulley are still within the acceptable parameters of
this calibration. MUST USE FACTORY OR COBB SF INTAKE SYSTEM ONLY, NO OTHER
AFTERMARKET INTAKES ARE CERTIFIED COMPATIBLE WITH THIS CALIBRATION."

This is for both the V1 and V2.Cobb changed this to full TBE years ago when they updated the maps.

Well, then I suggest a dual tip catback. Cops ignore them.

x2 or at least a stock looking muffler. I like the COBB muffler and the Tanabe Medallion mufflers.... They are somewhat close to looking stock-ish. Well, it's not a giant can.

People get pulled over with the stock STi exhaust on. No, single tip is just never going to work even if it's stock. They'll totally ignore a twin tip though.

I'm running a Flowmaster 40 series delta flow that is welded into the stock axleback. I even welded on the stock single tip and painted the muffler with ceramic black paint. Even though cops in Oklahoma really don't hassle people for modded exhaust (unless insanely loud) I still have stock appearance. It is somewhat loud secondary to no cats but even with the boys in blue next to me @ a light with their windows down didn't even glance at me upon acceleration...must be Oklahoma I guess. Makes me worried about traveling out of state.

What i would do is get a QTP downpipe with the electronic cutout...my friend has this and ive seen that on the dyno with the dump open it will actually increase the topend horsepower with out sacrificing the bottom end...and you would get all the benifits of a full tbe with the dump open and the stealth of a stock cbe with it closed
