Coob Accessport V2 Question

I have an 06 STi and i plan on buying a cobb accessport v2 this weekend. On the cobbtuning website it says i need a stock intake, but i have a k&n typhoon short ram. Will the accessport still work or will i need to put the stock intake back on??

If you're going stage 2, you should be getting custom tuned anyways.

Funny he didnt mention stage 2, nore do you absolutely HAVE to have a tune for stage 2.

As for the OP, that or any intake is just making noise for the most part, but you should be fine to run it.

I wouldn't stray from the map notes... personally. Get a drop in K&N until you are ready to go stage 2 with a tune.

Shame on you Josh.

The intake setups that work best with off-the-shelf Cobb maps are:

1. Cobb short ram intake (with or without heat shield box, preferably with)
2. SPT short ram intake (with or without heat shield box, preferably with)
3. stock intake with K&N (or other brand) drop-in replacement panel air filter (with or without snorkus delete mod)

If you still have the stock intake, it would probably be best to reinstall that and sell your typhoon for a few bucks if you plan on running a generic Cobb map for a while. If, however, you plan on getting more parts and/or a pro-tune via the AccessPORT in the near future, you can probably keep the intake you have.

The K&N doesnt cause problems. But like I said, and most of us know, its a noise maker. Maybe looks a little nicer than the stock setup. I know you shouldnt stray from the map notes, but Cobb does that for liability reasons.

True, I guess there's really only one way to find out for sure with his specific car: install the AP, select a map, drive for a while and see if there are any check engine lights or other ill effects... if so, just reinstall the stock intake and reset the ecu.

It's a very fair assumption. And no, it's not just a noise maker if he is actually going stage 2.

Why/how is it more than a noise maker at stage 2? Im just wondering, from all my research and asking/talking around, the 02-07 WRX/STI and the intake from the factory is rather capable of handling stage 2 power and then some more.

It's been proven time and again for years that intakes a decent power makers @ stage 2 for both WRXs and STIs. A few yers ago Harman Motive did an intake test and they were repeatedly gaining 10-15 whp on a stage 2 STI with an intake + tune over a custom tune on the stock intake. "Capable" is not the same as "ideal"; you have Cobb to thank for that often misquoted 350 hp mess. Just because the stock intake is capable of handling xxx amount of power, that doesn't mean that it's not a restriction before xxx power is reached.

The Intake will make a difference on a stage2 tune. Before that, probably not.
