i don't know anything about windows, i use a mac. but i'm getting a laptop with windows so i can open source tune. is romraider and ecuflash compatible with windows 7, or is gonna be a while? sorry if this is a dumb question, but whether i buy a laptop now or later depends on this. thanks
The best place to ask that question would be on the opensource tuning, or one of the guys that actually do maps for that. My guess is it would be a little while before you could actually use it, but Im not certain or very familiar with the software.

So far so good with win 7. Ecluflash and romraider both opened normally and opened maps and allows editing. I haven't flashed, but otherwise all seems to work fine right out of the box.

thanks a lot, i appreciate it. i've got the cash in hand, so i'll go buy one tomorrow.
Romraider requires manually setting the compatibility to vista service pack 2 for a 64 bit Win 7. If you don't it can't remember your settings including where your defs are.
Ecuflash works as is with no issues as of yet.

ok, i bought a laptop and downloaded ecuflash and romraider. when i open romraider it does what you said. how do i "manually setting the compatibility to vista service pack 2" ? also i couldn't figure out how to unzip the logger definitions. any advice? i'm totally computer illiterate!!
Did you buy a 32 bit or 64 bit based windows 7? If you're running 32 bit, you don't have to do that. Go to control panel, system and look to see what your have.
Just right click on the zip and choose unzip (or extract) here. If you don't have a zip program you'll need to download one.

Sweet!
Go to the program icon on your desktop, right click and go to properties, then click compatibility, check the box next to run this program in compatibility mode for, then choose vista service pack 2.

I hate to say this, but if your totally new to a PC, then OS may not be a good idea for a little while. It can be frustrating even for a fairly computer savvy person. It is after all beta version software.
I will help in any way I can though.
