Accesport vs. other engine management systems

I'm considering buying an accessport but first want to find out if there are any other comparable systems that may have an advantage over this one. Also does anyone know of any similar engine management system that is compatible with a Mac?

The AP is a good EM for basic bolt ons. It can be used for more advanced setups with a Protune.
It is also the easiest to use, flash, upload map, drive.
Most of the other EM will need a tuner or the knowledge to tune your car.
Check for tuners in your area, this help with what EM to go with.
What mods do you have done?

I just got the car and the previous owner didn't make any mods except putting on a boost gauge. All i've done so far is put on the spt intake so what im really looking to do with an EM right now is unlock more of the stock engine power. But I also think that ill want to make bigger mods in the future. Do you think the most important thing is to get an EM that local tuners can work with?

Cool. Thanks. And regarding the accessport; is anyone running an spt intake with the stage 1 or 2 maps? And if so do you notice any problems? The map notes stress that this shouldn't be done but I'm not so sure i believe this because the spt seems to be similar to the cobb aftermarket intake which they say can be used with the maps...

You should be fine with the SPT intake, Cobb states this to cover their butt. Some intake will mess up the AFR which will cause problems, like running lean.
A local tuner can save you a ton of money and time just in gas travel time. Talk with the local tuner about your plans, cost of tuning, and EM. Most tuners will run $300-400 for a custom map. You need to feel very good about the tuner, your is in his hands. Don't get caught up in the dyno numbers game, it's just a number. Tune the car for the way you want to drive it. My setup could make more power if I had it tune to the edge of its life, some tuners will do this just to show big numbers. I had mine tuned to make good safe power, this is key to keeping your motor in one piece.

I would not run it with the OTS Cobb maps without verifying your AFR's are ok. There was one guy that I know who installed the SPT and it messed up his AFR's and when they retuned for it he didn't make any power so they took it off.

I have a friend running the SPT intake with his Cobb stage 1, was just the same as mine when I was running Cobb stage 1 with stock airbox, but each car and place is different. Just my two cents.

I look at the SPT/Cobb Short Ram Intakes as underhood bling pieces. Sure, you might get a few extra horsies if you install one, but the potential risks are simply not worth it to me right now.

I am jealous of ow it looks nicer than stock and the sound as his turbo spools and you can slightly hear the BPV. But I would rather buy things that get me more power with less headache(s).

Please don't make statements like this without data logs to show your AFR.
