Arrow 97 jdm 2.0L in a 73 Porsche 914

hello although i do not own a wrx i do have a Porsche 914 that is in the middle of receiving a jdm 2.0l turbo engine and transmission. i have a few questions that i hope you guys can help me with.
1 are there any engine management options out there other than full standalone? i see lots of options for 2002 and later but none for this one.
2 can anyone foresee issues i may run into as far as the stock ecu? i.e. c.e.l caused by things i don't have on the car? (fuel tank pressure(loose gas cap cel) or the fact that i don't have cats?
any help will be appreciated

Assuming you don't need emissions legal, you have some bucks to spend on a proper tune, and you have a good tune shop around, you could get a hydra. Call up a tuner in your area and talk to them. Most of em have seen JDM engines and have tuning preferences. You can get recommendations on the internet but we're not actually going to be tuning the car so better to talk to the person who would.

haha dont let the word porsche fool you. although i'm not on a shoestring budget i also don't have unlimited funds. i was just looking for something like a flash or a piggyback.
but if a full standalone is my only option i will look into you suggestion of a local tuner thank you.

Well, you could flash a JDM ECU if you had it. I know there's tuners in socal that have maps for them. Better option, especially in a different platform, is a standalone though.

I would like to hear your experience getting that car registered, when you get to that point. (or is it going to be a track car?)

Your project is very interesting, could you oblige us by posting some pictures of your progress (on this thread)?

Thanks

there should be no issues registering the car as its a 1973 and presmog. and there are no saftey checks in my area so no issues there.
i will post pictures for you guuys as i go along. i just started this projet so not to much exciting going on yet.
i have one more question for you guys. how do you get around the evap system when you change over to a fuel cell for racing? is there a signal that you can pump into the ecu to make it think there is still pressure in the system?

I would talk to these guys, Renegade Hybrids. They where one of the first to make a kit to do your project. There is one 914 in my area that did an 03 WRX motor swap with mods. It is one nasty beast of a car.

The guys at Welcome Duners are very helpful and knowledgable re Subie transplants and racing applications. Give them a shout, they're in the Annaheim area, I think (714) 994-5222

Also you might look into Megasquirt products for EM. I just read a piece on their products in Grassroots Motorsports, and it looks like an affordable solution. BTW, I am a low budget Porsche racer too, NASA 944spec class. Love to see your project, please post up some pics.
