Hey guys and gals! Im new to this site and new to the wrx world. I recently bought a 05 with a spun rod bearing and am in the process of completely rebuilding the engine head to toe. It stayed the ej20 just bored .020 over, new crank, Manley rods and p istons, BC stage 2 cams w/valve springs, one piece header, cobb ap v3,and five-o black op 1000cc injectors. Now I know the injectors are a little extreme. The problem I have is my budget ran dry before I could buy a better turbo. The question I have is could I put the new injectors in and run the car with the stock turbo without hurting anything until I get my pennies saved up again for a turbo? Or do I put the stock injectors in and switch them later?? Also any suggestions on the turbo upgrade? ? Any imput is appreciated! Thanks!
You can install the injectors now if you want to get it out of the way but you will need a tune no matter what. With a new engine you should have a break in tune and then you should go back for a final tune.
Well I just broke down and bought a 20g. Hopefully I get the engine in the car this weekend then I should have the turbo some time next week. Can I use one of cobbs tunes from the accessport and drive it or should I just trailer it to get it dynod and tuned right away?
Return the cams and valvetrain and buy a turbo with that money. BC cams are bad stuff. They give you the bad idle some people want and none of the top end gains that come with it. More bark than bite essentially. Not to mention BC has for years been known for cam and valvetrain related failures and defects. Anything from cams cracking and cams ground off center. The valve springs aren't unknown to lose tension as well. With the money you spend on those you should be able to get a nice small/medium upgrade that will net better results with the amount you've already spent.
