03 wrx AEM + TBE
I have 03 WRX with AEM cai + tbe. Is the cobb off the shelf tune for use with the SF intake really that much different than if I was using the cobb intake?

Yes. Stick to the map notes.... don't stray from them.

BigDaddyFrost 06-05-2013 07:32 PM

there's that much difference between the intakes?

pzr2874 06-06-2013 05:47 AM

COBB seems to think so.

There is a difference in intakes. The curve after the MAF is the difference. It looks small, but that changes all sorts of parameters..

I'm pretty sure the air diverter is different as well. Maybe even the MAF location.

I'm just pulling from memory, but you might be right about the MAF location.

I guess I'll just have to get it pro tuned instead of using the ap

pzr2874 06-06-2013 02:59 PM

You should anyways.

You have to get an AP to get protuned.

pzr2874 06-06-2013 05:06 PM

Unless he doesn't have an AP and wants to get tuned via OpenSource..... which I don't think you should do.

BigDaddyFrost 06-06-2013 06:15 PM

I don't have an AP, but was considering getting one to put a tune on the car. I have the stock airbox on atm, not going to install the aem until I plan on getting it tuned. Just wanted to see what was the best route to go.

pzr2874 06-06-2013 06:40 PM

If in doubt, get the AP and take a few 3rd gear logs with the stock airbox... then install the AEM and do a few 3rd gear pulls.... post em.

cake bro

The Cobb SF intake has a "MAF Straightening" Effect. From My understanding it "smooths out" the airflow readings that the ECU gets in order to run more precisely.

The AEM intake does not have this same effect and people have said that the tune for the SF intake will not run correctly as a result.

The Cobb SF intake is actually really inexpensive, so if you want to use that tune you could just pick up the right intake.

We carry them on our website here:
