WRX 06 TRANSMISSION INTO 02 ?? 5 speed

Guys im getting ready to buy a transmission, and i am being told that since my car is a 02 wrx, that i would need to replace my rear differential for an 06 differential. is any one aware of this ? thanx guys

I don't think you have to... I don't see why. I thought the 06 had the same rear diff as the earlier years? Thus why everyone was breaking them on the 06 thanks to the EJ255's torque upgrade over the EJ205...

Thats what i thought, but the person that i am buying it from assures me that i will need it, he is a suby tuner..in ny , does any one know for sure ?? thanx guys

Maybe he's talking about the front diff? Did you break more than just your gears?

The rear diff is completely separate from the trasmission and basically identical at least 02-06. Unless he was talking about something else, I think he's mistaken.

i was under the same impression...that the diffrential was always the same on all wrx from 02-07

The diff will not be your issue. You are buying a transmission that is set up for a different clutch type. In 06 they changed the clutch to a push type clutch. All the prior WRX's were a pull type clutch. You will need more than just the tranny to make it work in your car.

thanks alot dude!...i decided against it because it does seem like to many variables..lol i just want a direct bolt on replacement to mined with BA gears....will the late 04-05 transmission bolt right up ? or will i need to find Axle Stubs also..

04/05 tranny you should just be able to bolt right up.
