transmission life

I went to the lapeer dragstrip in lapeer michigan and did approximately 6-7 runs launching at 3 and 4 grand. I started hearing a banging noise (as if metal was hitting metal) after my last run. Then, on the way home i started to hear a squeeling noise and eventually had to get it towed. The engine is bone-stock, i have a few gauges (boost and oil pressure) on it. Could the transmission be toast after 6-7 runs lauching at 4k?

I have read and heard that the transmission cannot take much before the gears go bad. Is that true?

thanks in advance all

Doesn't sound liek the transmission to me. 3-4 k launches don't really hurt it that much either. How many miles are on the car?

When you had to get it towed, would it run at all? Would it move?

It doesn't sound like the transmission. When the transmission goes out, it usually goes at once, not gradually.

I took it in to the dealer and they said it could possibly be piston slap....

Anway, I have another question that I would really appreciate you guys could answer.

The ONLY modifications made to my 04 WRX are an Auto Meter oil pressure gauge and boost gauge. I also have a Green performance drop-in. Will this void my warranty?

It just kinda sucks that I race the stock engine one time and all hell breaks loose.....anway what do you all think about my warranty status?

thanks all, i really appreciate your help

I would tend to believe that you are going to be ok. Depends on how anal the dealership is though.

Yeah, it all depends on the dealer but before they make any decisions on major issues a Subaru rep usually comes in to look at the car. The one I delt with was more understanding because he was a drag racer, and he understood the mechanics of the car, and how it worked. All I have is a cat-back and intake, and the dealer tried to void my warrenty. But the rep knew that that wouldn't cause the transmission problems I was having, and he got my car fixed. So if they try to void your warrenty, ask to speak to a rep, but I wouldn't mention that you race the car.

And I've never heard of valve float on a WRX. It happens alot on Eclipses and Civics. That's interesting.
