Im telling you guys, for a fact that 1st gear will grind no matter what you use in your car dang near, nor what gears you have. I have had my car since brand new, the only driver, and first gear grinds at about anything over 5MPH usually. Now rev matching and what not it can be done a little easier, but I have had both Mobil 1 and the manufacturers fluid in my car and the grind has been there still. When I rebuilt my tranny I saw my stock gears, not a thing wrong with first at all (I had a cracked 3rd gear tho). As far as the 6spds go, idk if they have the issue as much or not, I know the few guys I hung out with with STIs, have the 1st gear grind also.

I must respectfully disagree. My stock 195K mile tranny (later '02 version) goes into 1st smoothly up to around 20 mph. It wouldn't go without grinding until I put in Uncle Scotty's which a I ran for about 3 years. Now, filled with Andrewtech cocktail, it's still smooth. That being said, under "normal" driving conditions (around town, public streets) there's very little reason to ever need to grab first, other than at a stop or to cruise at 15mph (because I'm lost !) It is, however, nice to be able to grab it exiting an on track hairpin, if the need arises.

well hopefully this makes it a lil better. mine grinds unless at a dead stop. even 1 mph i mainly want the 5-4, 3-4 grind to go away when quick shifting... also when its cold out its a bitch to get into gear to take off. not really hard a guess but it take more than it should...

My WRX never went into first above about 8mph, bought it new. My STi goes into first smoothly up to about 15 mph.

Got all the fluid changed in the engine trans and rear diff... its like i have a different trans! No grinding, goes into gears smoothly and easily, and i can shift into first over 20 MPH!!! no grind! unless of course you cramp the crap out of it... as noted before i could not shift into 1st even at a roll without a grind.... NOW ALL GRINDING IS GONE!!! this stuff is amazing!

so i'm so confused reading this right now...i'm looking to go:

3qt (2.5qt) Redline Lightweight Shockproof gear oil (that's about 100% guaranteed)

the other 1qt, i don't know if i should go w standard Redline 75w90 or 75w140 and should i go friction modifiers or not?

i'm soo lost. and rear diff i don't know what to put in neither...

pls clarify...thanks
