trans mods 1st?

Hello all!! New to the Subaru family, and I have a question. Should I beef up my transmission before any other mods? I plan to get the short throw shifter, bushings, and flywheel (anything I'm missing?). I've read many threads pro and con regarding the stock tranny, and will build up the engine and turbo later on, but I figure that I should start here and then worry less down the road.

I'd go short shifter and bushings 1st. COBB makes a nice short throw shifter and so does Kartboy. Where is T-town CT?

A short shifter isnt a bad idea, but will not really help with the transmission being a little on the weak side.

Torrington, in the NW corner. Tons of twisties
What kind of mods can I make to the trans to make it stronger? Are strength mods necessary? I'm not looking to race it or anything, just make A to B more enjoyable

Well if you dont drop the clutch from high RPMs or shift hard you shouldnt have to worry about it. The only other answer is to get PPGs, which will run you in the neighborhood of $5500 or so.

Search on google. I believe the site is andrewtech.com. They are, from what I read capable of holding 800HP. Its really all they have as far as 5 spd goes. I have heard of the Legacy gears also, but dont know much about them. There are a few members here that run the PPGs. Look on youtube for "PPGs" and you will hear what they sound like.

non of the bushings/short shifter is going to make your tranny more reliable/stronger.

First I would like to say "Check out the Transmission forums for some great information"

PPG is "Pfitzner Performance Gearbox" they are the leading Gerset manufacturer for Imprezas.. They claim that their gerset is almost unbreakable.. Check out the link below for a great video about them..

Here is what we are talking about..

With too much abuse, NOT POWER, this is what your stock transmission will look like..

However with the proper upgraded Gearset you can dump the clutch at the Rev Limiter and do this..

Here is a link to a Thread I started about PPG dogboxes..

Just found some great PPG videos..

02 WRX.. "It's fun when it runs.. Problem is that it hardly ever does..."
