tranny not the confused man!

whats the best bang for your buck in companies for gearsets i wanna upgrade my tranny while its out for my motor build an would u recomend keeping the stock clutch for a weak link

psinuse 08-29-2011 08:22 PM

Hmmmm well stock 07 LGT gearsets are pretty good from my understanding. Depends on your budget and hp goals. PPG's are the bees knees to people. I run stock 100+k mile '03 gears in my car...

diesel paul 08-29-2011 08:27 PM

would u consider yourself easy on your trans though

!Laugh!!Laugh!!Laugh!!Laugh!!Laugh! Not at all. Take a look at what I'm running in my car. Granted not everyone is as lucky as me, but I know it is a matter of time before mine completely dies, and it will not be pretty.:D

Again what are your power goals? I can give you the best bang for the buck with that in mind.

turmic 08-29-2011 09:28 PM

Probably Albins or PPGs are what you want.

PS: Don't get keith all excited about trannies. :p

He said best BANG for the buck:p...
I will say that Albins or PPGs are the route to go if you have the money to spend on them...

turmic 08-29-2011 10:04 PM

Well...the RA Gears and Mfactory gears (not their diffs) are the cheapest and will most likely fail unless its kept at a low whp. READ: which means keeping it dang near stock if you run those gear sets.

diesel paul 08-29-2011 10:38 PM

im aiming for low to mid three hundred range on the ground hey im not going to judge anybody on what they get excited on:D

mosc 08-29-2011 11:11 PM

trade it in for an STi. Comes with a free tranny good for those power levels ;)

psinuse 08-30-2011 04:15 AM

If they had made the STi in a wagon I would have.
Again I have heard the 07-up gear sets are suppose to be pretty strong. Mid 300's you'd be okay with that gear set.

turmic 08-30-2011 09:15 AM

LGT Gears that come on the WRXs start at 08. Actually....that might be the best bang for his buck. I keep forgetting they should work for even the older gens.

Didn't they start putting those in the 07 LGT's though?

turmic 08-30-2011 11:31 AM

Maybe, but I know the WRXs didn't get them until 08.

diesel paul 08-30-2011 02:40 PM

so you guys are thinkin mayb just put a gearset out of a newer wrx would be fine im looking for reliablity i like to have fun with my car and going easy really isnt in my head when im doing that lol hell i blew the original tranny out in the dirt roads i would figure the tires would spin before the tranny would crap on itself

RcrsWetDream 08-30-2011 03:14 PM

The only thing you'll need to do if you get a newer WRX trans is you'll need to get new front axles... They switched to male axles rather than female in 06 I believe.
