stock clutch strength

i got an 04 wrx 59k miles and already started on my project, big 16g turbo supporting mods etc.

i been searching the forum and cant find a good answer. im runnin stock clutch and gonna do the uncle scottys cocktail next week(4th gear grind). the turbo will basically put me 250-300whp, daily driver, not really gonna drag or race, just to have the parts. didnt really drop the clutch since i had it, the most 20 times. will the stock clutch take it?

if it burns im grabbin either exedy oem or exedy stage 1 ceramic. which would u get since our trannys are weak

The rule of thumb is stock tranny stock clutch. Its easier and cheaper to replace the clutch over a transmission. You should be fine with the stock on with that power.

Do NOT use Uncle Scotty's Cocktail (USC), it has been proven to be bad (it turns acidic after about 10K miles. USC is a huge/epic failure and there is an extremely large thread on it over on NASIOC w/Blackstone test results (chemical analysis of the oil).

There are 3 tranny fluids I like for the 5-speed tranny:

Subaru Extra S
Redline 75w90NS
Motul Gear 300 75w90

I have used all 3 and I my favorite is the Motul, the stuff is badass. Turn In Concepts sells the Motul (it is worth the price, IMHO).

+1. I completely agree. For the clutch, stick with the stocker (or stock Exedy replacement). I have almost 80K miles on my stock clutch, 16K which have been at 320whp (built hybrid EJ257 w/18G 8cm). My clutch is holding up fine w/no slippage (knock on wood).

Oh and if you want proof here is the thread about the USC epic failure (start from page 60 or so):

Bartender: One Scotty's cocktail please. - NASIOC

Here is another thread about USC failure w/the Blackstone test results (specifically look at post #s 8, 23, 29):

My vote is for the Motul Gear 300. But, the Subaru Extra S and Redline 75w90NS are good too. I just find the Motul to feel the best in my 5-speed.
