What are the hp/tq limits that an sti trans can hold safely? I'm gonna be around 340hp/400tq....will my trans be safe? I know it can hold alot! I just wanna have reassurance cause I don't have the money for a new one.

Crawford Performance uses the STI trans on their highly modd'd STIs. If you don't believe me, check this out: Subaru Drive Performance Magazine : Crawford Performance 2008 STI "Tiger"
Granted their using a upgraded clutch as well. So, I doubt you have anything to worry about unless your grinding gears and a terrible MT shifter.

I agree. As long as you aren't a total idiot, you will be fine.

man i wish i could remember the link i saw, but i think it was on the proven power bragging thread on nasioc where someone finally broke it on a drag strip at 600+ whp, after several launches.

and another link where "most" people have claimed their rated at around the 550 whp range

I push my 6-speed rather hard. I would baby it more if I were making >350whp. It's a great tranny but I wouldn't launch with it at higher power levels. It's not designed for launching. Time attack doesn't require much shock loading on the transmission guys, remember that. If you are nice to your tranny, it can handle a lot more power than if you're not nice.

If you were to rate the stock WRX 5-speed at 200whp, I'd probably give an equivalent rating on the STi 6-speed of 400whp or maybe even a little less. Keep in mind those are just meaningless numbers. It's actually dependent on a ton of factors the biggest of which is the idiot behind the wheel.
