Sti tranny in a 08 wrxi

Will a sti tranny fit in a 08 wrx? And how much more power do they hold than the wrx tranny... My HP goal is between 450 and 500 and I'm reinforcing stuff first before I slap a turbo on it and start breaking things... Thanks

You have no chance for those goals without basically building an STi. You might as well do what I did and trade up. It'd be cheaper in the long run, and you will have better resell.

why wouldnt there be a chance, ive seen a bunch of wrxs with around that hp rating, yes there could be internal motor work involved and alot of other things but i have a mechanic willing to help me with all that and he builds motors for a living and ill take the chance with my wrx

Theres nothing wrong with what you are doing. Im in the process of building my WRX also. Paying less for an STI, and inusrance on one. And when Im done with mine the total of the build and the car will be less than an STI...

But you will need more than just the transmission. In the older WRXs, 02-07 you also needed the rear hubs, axles, the driveshaft needs to be changed because the WRX unit is too long. You need to hook up/wire in the DCCD. Its not as simple as dropping one transmission and putting in another one.

What you want is not the STi 6-speed, you want PPG gears in your 5-speed.

ppgs and sti swaps are around the same price...i would go with ppgs because it has longer gears which is better for drag racing. an sti swap or ppgs with short ratios would be better for racing around a track

looks like we have a negative nancy...(jking ratfink)I say its your money and your car...do what makes you happy...People back in the day probably thought you couldnt make 900hp with a 4 cyl honda...but they did. It might not be fun to drive 500hp around all the time....but good luck.

My deal is this. Tranny = $4000 min, diffs = $1000, turbo/cooler = $1000, axles = dunno $200?, head work etc = $1000

Total $7200, total increase in value=$0

I got my STi for $3000 more then a WRX.

Do what you want, we all do. Just expect to pay more then the difference in price of the two cars with no increase of value, and no suspension upgrades.

i originally got quoted for 6 grand a year insurance on my rex and if i had an sti it would have been 9800. make sure you dont forget about insurance. yea it may be a 7200 bill with no increase in value, but those parts could be sold. and there is no increase in insurance..

Progressive charges the same for both cars for me. All wrx's are the same coding.

BTW I pay $253 per 6 months for 100/300 100 liability and $500 collision with a $100 comp dedudctible

6k a year for insurance? Holy cow you must have accidents and tickets galore. I would be paying about $1,600 a year for full tort coverage and rental coverage. But, apprantly getting the insurance to fix minor damages also adds a surcharge. But, I'm still under $2,300 a year till the surcharge goes away.
