The SPT is the most overpriced one of them all. I have experience with it, the kartboy and the Cobb. I run the Cobb SS, the best one by far. Height and shift are both independtly adjustable of each other. The SPT is the same height as stock, which to me is too high. The Kartboy is alrite, very simple and straight forward design and install. But no SS is worth anything unless you get the front and rear bushings to accompany it.

Get front and rear shifter bushings, thats what really tightens up your shifts. You can use the Cobb or kartboy. I have a combination of the two because Cobb didnt have one of them when I bought mine.

I have the Cobb double-adjustable shifter. It's a great piece, but it's discontinued. So if you find it online, buy it. I also installed the Perrin bushings. It is a night and day difference.

I liked the Cobb b/c it was near the same height as stock. I don't dig the really short shifters where the bag is all crunched up under the knob. Mine looks totally factory. With the short one's like the KartBoy, my opinion is that it moves the shifter too far down so you're stretching for third and fifth gear.

Personally, I don't find that to be the case. I'd say I'm a rather normal sized person - about 5'10" with average length arms, etc. - and I have no problems reaching 3rd or 5th gear. I would guess with the Cobb adjustable short shifter, you could probably adjust that to be even lower than Kartboy's and I would think what you said would be the case with Cobb's short shifter, but I don't have any personal experience with it, so I really don't know if that's true or not.

I have Kartboy's short throw shift lever and their front and rear polyurethane shifter bushings and I'm happy with that setup. Installation of the short shifter is extremely easy, but the bushings can be a little tricky - if you have patience and basic hand tools, you can do it. I actually like that fact that it's not adjustable, so it's just a once-and-done installation.

Good to know. I'm about 5'8" with short arms like a T-rex, so I like the shifter close.

You say that now. But, when the metal (or plastic in some cases) in that cheap ebay SS reaches it's stress point and breaks off in your hand while your driving you are going to wish you bought a quality peice.

To the OP, get a quality shifter...kartboy, cobb, SPT all are good when you upgrade the bushings and can take a beating/will last.

IMHO, stay clear of cheap parts such as Ebay knockoffs and any Megan Racing products...crap is crap no matter what kind of deal you got. Personally, I have the SPT 5-speed SS (came with the car) along with every bushing/driveline mod Kartboy and TIC offer and shifting is crisp, percise, and very smooth. All the bushings/mods along with some really good tranny fluid (i.e. Motul Gear 300 75w90) and a STi Group N Tranny Mount (one of my favorite mods by the way; really imporves shifting) will really improve your shifting/feel.

+1 for the STi trans mount. I have the STi motor mounts and pitch mount also. It makes a huge improvement in shifting. No more rocking back and forth and making my passangers heads snap forward.

The motor mount do increase NVH. I had to use the COBB to bump up the idle (+75) a bit so it didn't shake so bad when the A/C or fan was on.

I have the motor mounts installed too. Never did the pitch b/c originally (way back when I really cared) I heard it created more NVH then the rest. But, now a hybrid engine build and 320whp later I will probably add the Kartboy Pitch stop eventually (suppost to be better than the Group N one).

I installed the Pitch Mount after I did the engine mounts. I didn't notice an increase in NVH, it did sort out some of the back and forth engine motion that was still there even after the mounts.

I would get the KB if I had it to do over again. Last year Group N stopped making their pitch mount, and instead I was delivered a factory STI mount. So an STI driver would receive the exact same part they already have if they ordered the Group N pitch mount.

The KB is a much better piece and I'd be curious to know how much NVH would increase with it, b/c it looks pretty darn solid.

Our revolutionary Double Adjustable Shifter ushers in a new generation of adjustability for one of the most critical links from driver to car with the ability to control both the height of the shifter as well as the throw. Designed using CAD technology, the COBB Blue anodized billet shifter body is CNC machined from 6061 Aluminum. Like our original design, the shift throw distance and shift knob height are independently adjustable and both can easily be adjusted with the shifter installed in the vehicle. Stainless Steel socket head screws are set in a counter bore for a flush mount and provide a clamping force that firmly holds the upper and lower slider shafts in place. This new design improves the ease of making adjustments while also being significantly stronger. Compatible with the factory shift knob or any aftermarket knobs designed to replace the factory unit. THIS IS IF YOU HAVE THE OEM (SPT) SHORT THROW SHIFTER INSTALLED BY SUBARU.

Sale Price : $145.00
Was : $166.72

??? I don't know???
any help would be great and the info from everyone +3 for everyone

They probably just say this because unless you have already had a short shifter you'll have to modify the trim plate to use the shortest settings. You can either grind it down, widen the holes and shift it upward, or spin it 180 degrees, basically you just need to make it so you can shift into first completely, won't be hard. Installing the shifter should take you 20 minutes max, the bushings are another story.
