What is stopping the shifter from fitting?

Ok I finally got it on...guess i got mad enough and really swung at it hard. I just got back from a drive and it feels real nice. I also got the kartboy shift knob which i like. I thought the appearance would be shorter, but thats ok.

I just removed the whole assembly from the car, took it over to my bench and whacked it acouple of times with the good old "BFH". Went right in.

My car is well, it's like 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag...

I went the ghetto route and used a very dense piece of 2x6 we had sitting around my place on campus.

I banged away for a while with a rubber hammer that looked like it was from the 60s. It didnt go in till I got pissed off about something unrelated and smashed the crap out of it and boom, i was short shifting Now I need to do the bushings....

the bushings are a pain because its one soldid peice of gooey rubber, i just got to big flat head screw drivers and worked it out a little bit at a time and then the two new bushing fit right in

oh and you don't need to lower the tranny like some people say

I found when i installed mine if you support the socket from under it. the shifter ball will go in much easier. Alot less hitting with a mallet. It has some flex in it.
