is this normal

ok this is how it goes

this is my first car so im not that "familiar" with manual transmission and awd,i used to have a civic (stick shift) before but i didnt drive it that much and i bought it used..

my problem is when i shifting from gear to gear, i can feel somehow the "shock" when im letting go of the clutch,is it normal?is it something to do with how i engage the clutch?is this normal with awd?i usually change gears between 3k-4k(is it bad?)

thanks!!

for good gas mileage shift at about 3000 rpms. and i would say that it might be your pressure plate. were there any recent up grades to the clutch or tranny? otherwise i d say u need to shift using the clutch a lil more. mine did it going from first to second but only when i was slammin it(that is of course after my new clutch and flywheel). does your clutch slip at all? and dont be afraid to ask ?s ### thats what this site is here for. let me know

I kinda had the same problem but now seems that it has gone away when i went stage 2. I think the little extra power help my shifting and power band.

Going from a civic to WRX is a big change- it sounds like you are just experiencing the beauty of AWD. How many miles are on your car? The reason I ask is because the ECU will learn your driving techniques and adjust (mainly with RPM shift and clutch engagement).

sounds like you just need to be a little smoother.

ColoWRXer is more helpful than not
i agree with the smoothness part....it's not going to hurt your clutch as much as it will your tranny and drivetrain. just practice seamless shifting, eventually you'll get to the point where you can't even feel the clutch engaging the next gear.

when i first started driving stick i had this horrible process i went through to change gears. i was way over analizaing and thinking things. every time i would shift i mentally went through bullet point list of 1) clutch in 2) change gear 3) clutch out, instead of trying to be smooth i was trying to get it right. after a week or so it faded. im not saying you do the same thing exactly but lots of people over analize and over think these basic things, especially in a new car. The physics though, is the same on any car. if it be 100hp or 1000hp.

best of luck. and let us know how you progress.
