So my clutch magically went kaput on my saturday.
I was downshifting and all the sudden my cab smelled like burnt clutch. I was almpst posetive it was the car in front of me... but i'm not that lucky.
now my clutch slipps in all gears past 3k rpm, and the dealer quoted me for $1241 for the fix.
3yr/36k mile wear warranty you say... turns out my car has a salvaged title, so I'm in for a fun time.. especially since I'm getting married in two weeks and now have no car.
To the point, i'm in need of a new clutch, but i know i can get one for less, the dealrer quoted me for $750 on parts, i see them online though for a lot less, what route should I go? I know a good shop here in fayettevilly, nc that i trust with such a job, I just don't know what kind of clutch to get, if not oem.
Just did my clutch and flywheel not too long ago. Went with ACT. For anything good after market you will be paying around 750 for the parts. IMO dont go with anything "ebay" for a clutch thats not a part I would want to go cheap with. Good luck with your wedding and congrats. And also good luck with your car.

16G it's so pretty
you can get an exedy OEM replacement for around 200...then just pay a shop to install it should be around 500-600...so right about half price of the dealer

Stick with the stock Exedy clutch kit!!! I have put this kit in 3 different WRX's and never have had a problem. You will also have to think about getting your flywheel resurfaced as well!! Or you can go with a ACT flywheel just dont get the light weight one. How far are you away from Virginia Beach??
OK thanks! So what about the Pressure Plate because I am 90% sure that one of the fingers broke off do to fatigue failure (133,564 miles). What brand, where and how much for a good one.
Thank you! I guess I sould have looked at all the replys first but any way that answers my question about the pressur plat and for a damn good price, "SHWEET MAIN".
if only you had an 02 i would have traded you my stage 4 competition clutch kit for an OEM one. i wanna get rid of mine ... too aggressive for my taste

Ya, and it is too aggressive for the weak '02 WRX 5-speed. That aggressive of a cluch w/that high of a torque rating will put added strain on your tranny and only help it to fail. You should get an OEM replacement clutch ASAP.
I don't know where people get this ridiculous idea that you need some super clutch w/a higha$$ clamp load on a more or less stock power WRX. I have a built EJ257 hybrid w/18G pushing 320whp/294wtrq (soon to be retuned for more boost, currently only running 16PSI) and I am still running the stock clutch w/over 80K miles (over 16K at this power level). That bugger just won't quit (knock on wood) and it has yet to slip or even give off a burnt smell, but maybe driving a manual for 12 years helps.

i heard that before about the lightest flywheels. whats wrong with the 10lbs over the 14? stocks like 22lbs right?
Has anybody come across any dodgy firms selling clutches with the exedy brand stamp, but are actually fake? i got a clutch kit off ebay and was wondering (since the walbro fuel pump scam from china) if it was real? it sures looks genuine but i guess ya never know.Any info guys?
