3rd gear just went out on me today a week after I bought the car. Classic. Need to know the best place to get a new MT or is anyone has one for sale one here.
Where did you buy it and what were you doing when it broke?
For the price of getting another one you might want to consider upgrading the internals. I have been waiting for mine to break and it wont. 333whp 6.5k launches at the drag strip and she is still together. The wife wont let me do any upgrades until next income tax so if it breaks... well... then I HAVE to fix it
Driving normal. I haven't even barely pulled boost because it hasn't been tuned yet. The tranny guy pulled the plug and metal kept pouring out. Upgrades will cost a ton. Rebuilding will be retarded $$
Honestly I would call around to pick yards. Even if its a long ways away you can pull a tranny for a couple hundred bucks. Just make sure you bring your inspection cam or a good light to check the insides before buying.
02 and some 03 5MT were known as "Glass trannys" because they're slightly thinner gears in width, thus being slightly less strong (compared to JDM RA gears). Look around for 04+ 5MT as they have the "newer" +1mm gears, or look for the STi RA (or STi non-RA gears...slightly different gearing). I may still have my USDM gears and synchros but you will need to reuse some of your parts (specifially the 5/R shift fork and rod) other than that you'll be set. I'm in Orlando FL
RoboTuner, I have the same issue with my 02 WRX tranny. I bought a 04 WRX tranny to swap. The CV shafts are different from '02 to '04. Can you tell me if the '04 CV shafts will fit my "02 hubs? I'm worry about the shaft length too.
Thanks. I went to the local auto parts and 2002 and 2004 WRX have the same hub. I'll just buy a CV axle for 2004...it should fit. (Cross my fingers)
