I have a 04 WRX wagon. Whenever my car is in first gear and i'm at a complete stop, my car shakes when i initailly begin to move forward. You can also hear something rattling as the car moves forward. The sound comes from the front to maybe the mid point of the car.
I'm thinking it could be the Flywheel and it may need resurfacing, but then again...i'm not sure. So if anyone may have an idea of what i may be. Give me your 2 cents.
a heavier clutch will put more stress on your transsmision and drivetrain unless you have have some good power upgrades then its ok, if your stock id go with the stock clutch wich is exedy... im about to do mine. im gonna orcder the stocker
Actually, i believe Subaru had to put in heavier flywheel sometime in in 2003, because a lighter flywheel was causing too much stress and effected driveability. Heavier flywheel makes the engine spin a fraction slower resuting in a smoother clutch pick up. I think if the clutch being replaced with stock, then its best to combine it with stock weight flywheel. That is what i am going to do...
Cheers...
Go with an OEM clutch, it's your safest bet, plus your not going to see much of a difference other than clutch chatter even with the stage 1 exedy. Go OEM.
Don't want to go against the grain here. In general stock clutch for stock trans is a good rule of thumb. However a stronger clutch is not in and of itself going to stress your trans. It's only going to stress it if you take advantage of what the stronger clutch is capable of. Drive it in a reasonable fashion and it will not hurt the trans.
I replaced my stocker with a ClutchMasters 300 kevlar clutch. The engine was detuned to about 300whp/270wtrq. The clutch turned out to have a bad pressure plate. A LOT of shudder in it. Clutch was replaced under warranty: no vibration, very smooth. I drove it this way for five months, with a stock trans.
Pulled the trans to replace the stock gears with heavier gears. The OEM gears are in perfect shape. Moral of the story is . . .
(All you have to do is turn the flywheel. No need to replace it unless it has been overheated.)
Very true TwoCobras, but we have to ask ourselves who will actually do this and pay attention to it. Im probably wouldnt even count myself to do it. Thats the only problem there. But if new gears are in mind down the road, and a person can drive sensibly, then an upgraded clutch isnt a bad thing either.
