manual vs automatic

Hi guys, I'm new to the site...

I want to do some research before I go buy my wrx.

I'm a girl, and I live in LA, so I don't want a manual car.
My bf says that the stick shift wrx's are better.

I don't think I'll be racing it, but I do like to step on it when I drive.
I also think that I would want to make it a little bit faster so I could
play around and race my boyfriend in his buick GN.

Any tips or suggestions? Has anyone made any modifications to an automatic wrx to make it faster?
If so, what did you do?

Tons of people have modded auto WRXs. They will be slower than people who know how to work 5-speeds properly, but if auto is what you want, why not go for it?
