Manual Trans Fluid

For my 2005 WRX Wagon----

Found great posts here on changing the manual transmission fluid, Thanks.

I want to go with Red Line or Amsoil, no cocktail... What manual trans fluid would you guys here recommend from those two manufacturers? Sorry if this type of question is done to death...

I live in Cleveland where the weather is both very hot and very cold and I don't drive the car as hard as some...

Thanks in advance!

Rich

Use the Suby Extra S stuff.. change it out every 25-30K

As far as the others... without mixing... I have no feedback.

I had an issue grinding slightly when going into 3rd. Switched to redline lightweight shockproof and smooth as silk.

A Redline rep actually recommended adding 1 qt of Motul Gear 300 to a fill of Redline LW Shockproof.

Yes. Andrew from Andrewtech is an acquaintance of mine. He got the recipe for the "Andrewtech cocktail" from Redline themselves. I don't remember the exact reasoning for it, but he said that Redline LW Shockproof is almost perfect for our transmissions, and that adding the Motul gear oil corrects a cold weather issue (don't remember what it was) that the Redline fluid alone would have.

One more question and then I'll shut up about it. Thoughts on Amsoil? My pal at the Corvette forum is a dealer for them and says that their primary recommendation for the WRX (both manual trans and both diffs) is their Severe Gear 75w90 (product SVGQT)

Thanks again for the help. Lots of great info after searching.

I know....

Just thought I'd post the results. Went with 3.5 quarts of Amsoil Severe gear oil 75W90. Smoother shifting right from the get go. I bought some Red Line for my Corvette manual trans and although it's not apples to apples I'll see if I like their product as well.

for Amsoil.
