im thinking about getting a set of front and rear kartboy bushings because ive heard so many good things about them but i just dont want my shifter to be stiff and hard to move in and out of gear? im all for a more solid feel but i dont want to have to give anymore effort than what i give now.
When you get the bushings, it will make it slip into gear easier. The stick will loosen up w/more driving as with all cars. Get them, you won't be disappointed.:rocks:
I felt more of a difference when i installed the STI trans mount. that combined with the shifter bushing, made it alot stiffer feel, but didn't make it harder to get into gear.
I really like my Kartboy front and rear shifter bushings. They made a noticeable difference. They don't make it harder to shift though, I dunno where you got that info from.
I'm gonna be honest, it's not the easiest thing in the world to do. It definitely requires a little elbow grease and some patience. I was able to do it with a set of ramps and some simple hand tools. There are plenty of good write-ups out there on how to do it... most of them list common problems you might run into and some solutions for each one. The most frustrating parts for me were (1) trying to get the stock front bushing out in one piece - you can cut it out, but I wanted to get it out in one piece just in case I had to put it back in. I just kept prying it at an angle and eventually it popped out, and (2) physically reaching the bolts that hold the rear bushing onto the car because, if I remember right, you have to reach above the exhaust and/or driveshaft to get to them. There is a little room to work, but it's sort of tight, so I used some socket extensions and a universal joint and I was able to get to the bolts just fine. Once you actually get the stock bushinges off, it's really easy to get the aftermarket ones back on. I'd suggest reading through a write-up or two to familiarize yourself with the process and then just go for it!
agreed, well worth it. i recently did the front bushings and it was not that hard. like man show said the toughest part is getting the stock bushings out. i opted to cut mine off. i would definitely recommend doing the rear ones as well. i have not but from what i can see the remaining play in the linkage is due to that squishy rubber of the rear bushing. i had to mess with those bolts to install my factory short shifter and it was not that tough. just some wierd body/hand positioning involved. i don't even think i used any flexible joints on my wrench.
i would say it is now easier, if anything, to shift. i actually didn't notice a huge difference. a little less play when in gear but that's about all. i guess i grind gears and miss shifts less often, but that could be a coincidence, i dunno. that's why i recommend the rear bushing as well. i will be doing it eventually.
