I brought mine two month ago and have not problem with the tanny, (knock on wood). I have 8500 miles on my wrx tr 06. I launch it every weekend.
On my home today I saw a red WRX 06 sitting on the side of the highway, some lady was in her car with the hazard ligths on. I was goin to pull over but it was to late. I wonder if her tanny blew up? Anyone think that would happen to her?

DSM's are notorious for bad trannys. I had to get mine rebuilt. No 2nd gear.

500 miles on my 06 no prob.

Its the same gearset as the 05 wrx, with more torque there will be more problems. But we all know where to get better gears....PPG FTW!

This tranny ended up as a scam. If its to good to be true than 9 times out of 10 it isn't true.

Well, I got my car back, got an RA gearset, the shop talked me out of the PPG's and into the RA. Apparently every single tooth from 3rd gear was gone...that's just not right. The RA is nice, louder gears than stock, wish they were a little louder.

Why would they talk you out of PPG? Thousands of dollars into a tranny, I don't want it to ever break again. You basically have the same gearset as before in there. There are so many broken ra sets its not even funny.

well I had 4,000 miles on my 06 and 1,000 on a 280whp set-up, toasted third passing a car not even under full throttle. got a Ra-spec tranny now that seems to be really nice, much better gear ratio's than stock 06'. I even went as far to hire an engineer to look at my busted tranny and they said it was a wicked curve on third with about 370 ft/lbs of torque that the 2.5 pumps out that caused it to shreed every tooth off 3rd.

Sounds pretty familiar, but I wansn't making the power you were. I think the RA will be enough for me. I drive my car like it has a weak tranny...no launches.
