Does anybody know if the Transmission Control Unit from a Forester XT will work in the WRX CVT? I'm trying to find out if there is a way to eliminate the "step shifting" my CVT does in I and S modes. (The step shifting essentially eliminates any of the benefits one would receive by using a CVT) The transmission in the FXT doesn't step shift in I or S mode unless you use the paddles, or manual mode. If I can use the TCU from the FXT, that would be a simple fix, especially if I can find somebody to just swap with me. I'm a bit concerned about whether it would play nice with my ECU since it is completely different than the one in the FXT. Any info helpful.
Thought I'd update here so those interested would know (Haw1es). I got some info off of another forum, apparently the WRX ECU doesn't use the same hardware as an FXT. Because of this, the ECU would have a hard time talking to an FXT TCU. I've also e-mailed SOA. They said that there is no additional programming available at this time, but that they would pass my question on to the engineering team for review. So, to put it bluntly, we who own a WRX CVT and know that it would perform better AND offer better economy without the step shifting that was programmed in to appeal to the LCD (Lowest Common Denominator) won't be getting a new program for our transmissions any time soon.
Thats not cool. Im sure somone will find a way to tune it someday
