Exhaust question - 2011 WRX

My mechanic did some mods to my exhaust. Instead of starting from the cat, he cut the midpipe & reconnected it to the rest of the system. He used an inner pipe to connect both parts & welded to seal. Since the inner pipe has a slightly smaller diameter, could this create problems in the exhaust / motor?

Thats not uncommon practice for exhaust systems. Depending on how thick and long the pipe is it MIGHT be a restriction, but highly doubtful.
