clutch question

Hi all. Had something strange happen tonight...Was driving in 5th and went to downshift into 4 because a small incline. Rev matched and slid into 4 and got an awful burning rubber smell at same time. Maybe I revved a little higher than needed, but definitely didn't over-rev. Smell is intense. Any thoughts on that? Cars brand new...has 4500 miles on it. I'm thinking maybe coincidentally I picked something up off the road that burned itself into the exhaust pipes but not sure.

It happens from time to time. As long as you don't do it all the time you should be okay.
