Hey Derek,
I will give you the answer to your question and the possible aftermath that resulted from my own experience.
If the clutch is NOT slipping then 99% of the time it is the throw out bearing. This bearing rides on the transmission spline. Long story short it takes a beating it pushes against the clutch plate fingers. When it gets worn it begins to make a squealing sound like metal on metal almost like when brakes give you the "warning squeal" to change them, only a little more high pitched. It needs to be replaced or the the following may happen.
THE BEARING SHATTERS!! (happened to me on the road) by God's grace I made it home in 3rd gear, because it wouldn't change. And coasted into the driveway. Upon tranny removal. the bearing collar was destroyed, bearing pieces had bounced around and tore up the bell housing, resulting in a small internal leak. NEW TRANS!!! had to be bought 3500.00+. The squealing happened over the course of 5 days or so. The lesson I had to learn?
CHANGE THE BEARING BRO! Don't drive it, saying I'll fix it soon, ya know what I mean?
It isn't like a slow leak in the tire
Also it is a small chance that it may be a leaky clutch slave cylinder, which will cause the clutch to not fully disengage. And make for a rough shift.
Hope this helps.
