I don't know exactly why that is either, but I can take a guess: four gears cost less than five. I also thought that was because 5th gear is mainly for cruising and it doesn't see nearly the abuse that gears 1-4 see. Most hardcore power pulls and quick shifting/gear banging occurs in gears 1-4. Shifting into 5th is almost always smooth unless you're doing a top speed run where every millisecond counts, and even then it's probably not going to be a gear you really slam into.

That being said, Albins gear sets include a nice beefy 5th gear just in case

Some of the other members could probably ellaborate better than myself. But, I'm thinking the same method as man show. The 5th gear probably isn't really necessary to upgrade.

The LGT gears are basically what the 3rd gen WRXs come with and those are holding up to some good power levels. Including reports of 400 wtq. So, its a solid option and its a lot cheaper on price. But, I'm not as well versed in the 5 spd swap department as others. Because I have a 6 spd and haven't invested a lot in research. I just figured I'd let you know as much as I could about the LGT option. Keith did all the hard work though.

I am having a similar situation... when I turn 3/4 to full turn I get clunking in front end, like axles.
It doesnt do it all the time, just occasionally. Can anyone give me any insight on this?
Thanks for the help!!!!

Get the front up on jackstands and see if you can duplicate the sound.... Might be the axle joint or the tie-rods.

OK, this may sound stoopid..but once on jack stands what would I need to do to try and duplicate the sound?

See if your ball joints are cracked. It may not do the sound without load on the car.
