Burning Clutch?

I went to the drag strip for the first time on friday and ran 8 runs (they were all very slow). Every time I launched i would bring the rpms up to 4-5K and let the clutch out 50% and let the car get going then let it out the rest of the way as i was flooring it. Then on my way home (after my car sat for abotu 1 hour) i launched in from a stoplight and i could smell the same smell from the drags, which i thought was the rubber from other peoples tires. I think it was my clutch burning becuase i would smell it right after launch. The clutch still feels fine. Is there something I was doing wrong, should I not run so many times or should i let it cool down more?

You probably burnt it up a little bit, nothing too bad. As long as it isn't slipping, you are fine.

Yeah, thats definatley burnt clutch. Doing a lot of launches one after another is a good way of burning out the clutch. Doing just one every once in awhile will be alittle easier on it. Everytime I do it now I get out of the car and apologize to her for alittle bit. You're not doing anything wrong as far as your launching, because thats how you do it, but, your car probably doesnt like you anymore after 8 runs !Laugh!

If you smell burning clutch, it means your not letting it out fast enough.

You should be fine as long as it's not slipping. Just don't keep doing it. That smell tends to linger for a good while.
