Axle Gease Being Flung Onto Dp

I have an 06 with about 8k miles on it and at about 2500 miles I noticed that there was a vertical line of grease on my downpipe which is directly behind the passenger side axle boot(tranny side of the boot). I have since installed an aftermarket downpipe and noticed the grease appearing here in the same place as well. This is only happening on the passenger side. Does this mean I have a bad boot seal or a bad cv joint or all of the above?

check the CV boot to see if u have a tear inside the ribs. jack the car up and turn the wheel one way and rotate the tire.
and that has to be under waranty.

I would change it myself just to not have to deal with the factory, but do you guys think the warranty would some how be void if they see the down pipe? I could also bring them my stock down pipe if they gave me shit.

YEAH, that`s a big 10-4!
I do alot of warranty work for a Diesel shop @ $139/ hr. and I know we don`t give away alot of warranty work without a fight.

Yeah, management tends to crack the whip a little harder on warranty work because of shitty S.R.T. s and precise wording on work description. If the paperwork is not handled right the dealership won`t get their money and has to right it off.

Even if it is just the boot, go ahead and replace the whole CV axle. If you've been driving around with a CV axle that has little or no grease in it, you've been eating up the gears that r in the axle. I had that same problem with mine, and the Suby tech just replaced em and said it was in warranty. Don't worry about any mod's you've done voiding the warranty, those guys know what people buy these cars for and are really understanding about it, and usually work with you as much as possible.

hopefully some one notices this old post, my front right CV boot has been leaking grease for about a week now. i was told to just replace the whole axle rather than just the boot, about how much will that cost in parts? i intend to do the install myself(stand by and have experienced people tell me what they're doing)

Well I have 35,000 miles on the car, replaced the clutch (which involves removing the axle), and have been runnig stage 3 with a vf39 for about a year and a half and still no issues. I would leave it alone unless it is clunking or giving you other problems.

This just started happening on my 05 with only 27k miles. I'm taking it to the dealer next week and hopefully it will be covered by the powertrain warranty b/c my 3 years just ran out last month :-(

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Surprise, the leaks are not covered by the powertrain warranty. Only a broken CV joint would be covered, and if the CV joint was broken they would probably claim abuse.

They actually found that both of my boots are leaking at the end where the boot is clamped on to the axle. The wanted to replace both CV joints for $850!! When I asked if replacing them was covered under warranty they told me to call Subaru and ask. When I did, Subaru said I just need to have a new band applied and that would not be covered.

The Subaru dealer should have told me this but instead they told me I needed to replace the axles. Then they tried to say that to reband the axle you have to take it out of the car, which is also not true.

I'm going to have them reband them, and if it starts again I'll just buy the parts and do it myself.

These leaks would have been covered by the 3yr/36k, but I missed that by a month. Go figure.
