That's a very common issue with our gear boxes. It can be remedied very simply and cheaply with a blend of gear oils, known as "uncle Scotty's cocktail". I had the same problem which the cocktail fixed, and it made getting into first much easier as well. Here's the recipe:

1qt Redline lightweight shockproof
1qt Pennzoil Synchromesh
2qt Castrol HypoyC 80w-90

I wasn't able to find the Castrol and substituted Lucas 80-90 synthetic. I think any 80-90 synthetic will work. It's the first two that seem the most important. I have 125K on my car with lot's of track time and now towing miles, and the grind has never returned.

Glad it worked for you too. I just put the cocktail in my "new" 95 impreza L, as I was getting grind from 1st to 2nd. It worked like a charm !

Did you even read this? It tells you how much of each.

But it will only be 1.8qts of castrol not a full 4.

Whats wierd with my 4th gear is I have a 5th-4th grind. But it is only at higher speeds. Reg city driving the 5th-4th down shift is smooth. Like on the E-way when traffic slows down, it always grinds and I dont get it. You would think that if the syncro was bad, it would do it on every single down shift to 4th, right? I always rev match when going into a lower gear. The up shift to 4th is fine. So this weekend I am going to put in some Subaru Extra S gear fluid. I have heard many good things about this fluid. Hopefully this will solve it.
