3rd gear gone!

Well I am a noob to wrxs but Ive always owned swapped hondas as well as mild built ones . Well I picked up a 02 wrx very very cheap and plan to put a few bucks into it. the big problem is 3rd gear is gone. My buddy told me the fork is bent. i researched and found out that they are aluminum and that is probally the problem!

So!! I want to get the trans fixed with new gears all PPG and forks. Anybody have a good suggestion since I kno zero wrx tech in my area? I live in Milwaukee, WI. I have around 1300 to spend on it maybe more.

or is buying a used tranny better?

I would appreciate any info thanks!!

PPG sets are going to run more in the $3500 to $5000 range. Your only real option in that pricerange is a used 5-speed.
