Listen guys, the older trans weren't meant for much power past stock..... Add power, stickier tires, diff clutch/fly and not feathering the clutch.... These are all contributing factors.

Add in any kind of auto-x or track days.... you're asking for it. !Notfunny!

None of them are upgrades and the 1st 2 are essentially identical.

I stand by my opinion that the trans isnt that bad if you dont abuse it. Sure its not bulletproof and will not hold up to racing duties or heavily modified power levels but for a dd and spirited driving as hawk eye said his uses are I think it can go a long way. If he has the money to upgrade it then Im most def all for it! Hell, how many of us wouldnt! Some have had great luck while others have had major failures when it comes to the wrx trans.

I tend to agree with him though. Hundreds of people had no problem running a good amount power thru these transmissions with no problems and then turned around and sold the cars where the new owner promptly broke them. A friend of mine sold his WRX to a guy from out of state and the guy broke 1st gear before he even got the car home. Driving skill and habits are the biggest factor in how long your transmission lasts assuming you don't make a billion lbs of torque.

Haha don't scare me now...on the back burner is my gears rally spec 1-4 is around 1700. Sti 1-4 is 1400 and LGT gears 1-4 with all syncros and bearing is 1300. Local garage around me that does a lot of subi trans rebuilding quoted me 850. Which gears are the strongest? I'd have to think the rally spec which is why there the most expensive.

I have an 06 tr pushing 330 to the wheels for about 30,000+ miles now and my transmission is holding up. Its my DD and i beat on it on the high way almost everyday (on ramp pulls or 4th to 5th pulls.) I like to stay off of 3rd most of the time. Its no fun. Im un easy everyday driving all the time. Im never really comfortable tuning my car any further than that. Im saving my pennies for the 6 speed. It will be the cheapest way to get that instant sigh of relief. For the cheap way on the v7 6spd/hubs/axles/shafts/3.90 FD Jdm motor sports quoted me 3500 delieverd (CA). Thats the cheapest i have scene. IMO just save for the 6 speed. My 0.02,

I've dealt with that shop. Take it there. It's a haul from lancaster but they will do the job right. If you want and have money, he can put in PPG's or other considerably stronger options. Their price probably includes more than just the gears too.

Seriously, the guy at Rallyspec knew more about transmissions than anybody I have ever met. I don't know a lot, but I know enough to know who's bullshitting and who knows what they're talking about. Drop off your car there and listen to what he says. And he's good at fixing cars, not answering his phone. Just keep that in mind...
